My friends and I decided to take a weekend trip to Moalboal and see for ourselves what the place has to offer. We have heard many stories about Moalboal having some of the best diving in the Philippines, beautiful beaches, and quaint beach resorts that are not so expensive.

Unlike many of our previous trips to on Cebu Island, we decided to take a v-hire (van for hire) instead of a bus. Most v-hires do not keep to a specific schedule and leave from their point of origin when the driver feels the van is sufficiently full of passengers. We were pleasantly surprised to learn the v-hire to Moalboal that leaves from the South Bus Terminal rents their parking space by the hour, so after one hour they leave whether the van is full of not.

The ride to Moalboal was quick and pleasant. Unlike the buses to Moalboal, the v-hires make one rest stop on the two-hour drive. We much preferred taking a v-hire compared to a bus to Moalboal and the cost is only P100 each way. The v-hire schedule back to Cebu City is a bit dicier because the v-hires leaving from Moalboal do not pay much for parking, and as a result, leave only when the van is full. We were lucky to only have to wait for 30 minutes.

We found Moalboal was divided into two major areas. The White Beach area has the best white-sandy beaches and more beautiful beach resorts. Generally, we found the resorts at White Beach were newer and more “up-market” than what can be found at Panagsama.

The Panagsama area is more rocky and focused on those who come to Moalboal for diving. In addition to shops the rent diving equipment and provide various services for divers, Panagsama has more hotels, bars, and restaurants for the budget-conscious traveler.

We also visited the Marina Village Resort and restaurant that is located in Panagsama. We were introduced to this place by a friend in who owns a nice Italian restaurant in Cebu City. Thus, we were looking forward to some great Italian food and great service. Unfortunately, we did not find either one. Perhaps it was because the owner was not around, but the service at the restaurant was poor and the food was not as good. Very poor service the staffs are not friendly at all.
